I know, I know… I say I’m a writer of sci-fi/fantasy novels, but you all want to know what I’m actually doing. How demanding! Well, I’m doing a lot, just very slowly. Part of this is due to my work schedule, and part is due to the aforementioned “suppressed creativity” issue. It’s been rearing its ugly head again, lately.
Firstly, I will discuss my primary novel series in the vaguest possible detail. Then I’ll go over my other little side project.
Fifteen or maybe sixteen years ago, I had a bizarre series of very vivid dreams. These dreams picked right back up where they left off each night for about a week straight. In them, I lived out a story which spanned billions of years.
This story will span at least six written books. It starts in another universe, even before the birth of our current one. The story then moves into our universe and traces the history of a race of advanced beings as they travel the stars, exploring and creating as they go.
Later, wars and turmoil bring everything to a halt and change the course of history for the aforementioned race as well as the thousands of races with whom they have established relations.
Earth is one of the millions of worlds they’ve touched. The unfolding of the story will touch on creation myths, legends, superstitions, ancient gods, and the rise & fall of empires.
Humanity will face an epic decision: rise up into the light and walk among the stars, or fall into darkness and ruin at the hands of an ancient and powerful enemy.
With multiple powers at play, each trying to succeed in their own agendas, the path to human destiny will be neither safe nor clear. What route will we take, where will it lead us, and what will happen when we get there?
I know, but I’m not telling.
The Other Project
My secondary project — which will probably end up being the first published — is something which started as a short story. Started. It quickly exploded into something longer than short but shorter than a novel.
Possibly a novella?
I have no idea. We’ll figure out which category it falls into once it’s finished and a final word count is determined.
Basically, though, this one is sci-fi set on modern-day Earth. It revolves around a pair of mysterious children and the efforts of a brave adult trying to keep them safe from a Pentagon-backed corporation trying to reclaim their “lost assets”.
Along the way, some deep and dark secrets come to light. The identities of the children have some shocking ramifications for their guardian and for Earth.
What’s in the Pipeline?
Everything. Literally, everything is in my creation/production pipeline. I’m trying to weed through it to find the ideas I actually want to pursue. I’ve got ideas to sort through which span the genres of sci-fi, fantasy, comedy, mystery, and even a little romance. What will I work on, and in what order? HA! I’m going to be just as surprised as you are.
So… What’s Next?
Now I get back to writing — or at least attempting to do so in free moments and between interruptions. I’m trying to get the smaller project done as quickly as possible. That is, quick, but while still maintaining the quality and integrity of the finished story.
Until I manage to churn out a piece of published work (I swear, I’m trying!), please keep an eye on this blog, where I’ll post about my work a little more frequently going forward.
